Tradition

Tradition

In our centers, we study, practice and teach the Buddha Dharma in a way that Lama Govinda`s tradition will live on. We are recreating Buddhism for our own spiritual development in all its historical and philosophical forms: from early Buddhism to the Bodhisattva ideal of Mahāyāna to the meditation practice of Vajrayāna. We are not fixated on a certain traditional way of thinking, teaching and practicing. We are open to the genuine transmission of all the lineages whose knowledge is requiered for the practice of Vajrayāna. We acknowledge the cultural and temporal manifestations and strive to recognize, practice and adequately share the wisdom revealed in all these traditions. In order to continue the work of Lama Govinda, we direct ourselves to the tasks and goals formulated by him:

- Integration of all essential elements of Buddhist thought and meditative experience in study and practice;
- Education and training;
- Spreading the Dharma;
- Clarification of false ideas;
- Preserving the unity of the Buddha Dharma;
- Openness to a dynamic development of the Buddha Dharma in the future;
- Training of Buddhist teachers;
- Selfless service to the community;
- Living on the basis of ethical behavior, wisdom and meditation modeled on the Buddha;
- Overcoming ethnic, national and cultural fixations in an international Buddhist movement;
- A teacher-student community based on elective kinship, in which all members are equal and everyone receives recognition and support whatever their position;
- Individual accompaniment of learners and practitioners through mental, emotional and meditative support for the liberation path;
- Development of teaching and practice methods appropriate to the cultural and social conditions of today's people.
